Answer: Panafcort (prednisone) is a steroid and considered as the first-line medication for the management of Polymyalgia Rheumatica. There are other medications such NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen etc.) that can be used as adjuncts to prednisone. NSAIDs can also be used alone, without Panafcort, in cases with mild disease. Other drugs like methotrexate are also used in this condition. Panafcort is a magic drug but unfortunately it is associated with a wide range of side effects. Some of these complications are; gastritis, depression, mood swings, weight gain, bloating, headache, flushed face, skin and bone thinning (osteoporosis) sleep problems etc. Your doctor will put you on the lowest effective dose to keep the side effects to the minimum Hope this helps.
