Dear Sir, Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concerns.
Long-term use of
corticosteroids like Panafcort can result in a number of serious side effects like:
1. Weight gain
2.
Osteoporosis — the loss of bone density and weakening of bones
3. Stomach ulcers
4.
High blood pressure (
hypertension)
5. Diabetes
6. Cataracts — a clouding of the lenses of your eyes
7. Susceptibility to infections
8. Delayed wound healing
9. Mood changes,
10. Striae over the skin, etc.
These side effects need to be monitored by your treating doctor. He or she may adjust your dosage and prescribe treatments to manage these side effects.
When your symptoms are under control, your doctor will slowly decrease the dose of corticosteroid medicine. The goal is to find the lowest dose that keeps you comfortable. Some people can stop taking corticosteroids within a year. Others, though, will need a small amount of this medicine for 2–3 years, to keep aching and stiffness under control.
Methotrexate-an immune-suppressing medication may be an alternative effective and safe in patients with relapse or those who don't respond to corticosteroids.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (commonly called NSAIDs), such as Ibuprofen & Naproxen are not effective in treating
Polymyalgia rheumatica.
Hope this could answer your query.
