What Are The Side Effects Of Primolut Depot Injections On Pregnancy?
Hi Doctor, I am 6 weeks pregnant with my first pregnancy and i have noticed light bleeding and spotting. The doctor has put me on primolut depot injections for 8 weeks, one per week. What are the possible side effects of the drug? Is it safe for the pregnancy?
It is considered to be safe during pregnancy. Primolut (norethisterone) is a synthetic form of female sex hormone progesterone commonly prescribed to support and maintain an early pregnancy which not only prevents miscarriage but also prevents preterm delivery.
Based on the history you seem to have missed abortion for which your doctor has prescribed this medicine in order to prevent miscarriage due deficiency of progesterone. It is considered to be safe during pregnancy so continue to take as prescribed.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
