Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Side Effects Of Prolonged Use Of Synthroid?
My thyroid has been removed. I have been on Synthroid for apx 13 years. What would happen if I had to stop taking the medication? I have recently retired and just today received notice from Social Security that they are jacking my medicare premium way up from what they originally told me. Decision time. Do I eat, or take my meds.....or do I skip a week at a time to stretch out the perscriptions?
Synthroid or Levo-thyroxine replacement is life long requirement since your thyroid has been removed. You need to continue the drug uninterrupted. Avoid self-discontinuation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
