What Are The Side Effects Of Prolonged Use Of Zobid-R ?

Hello, My Grandma is 81 years old and she is non-diabetic. Recently while she was working normally a sever pain started in her right knee and she was not able to move a step forward. After examination doctors told that both her knee and thy bones have become weak(dissolved) and she was advised to undergo a knee replacement surgery or to take the following medicines everyday. ZOBID-R. We have heard that it is not advisable to take it everyday as it has its effect on kidneys too. Please advise.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. You're right about the fact that Zobid R ( which contains diclofenac) can cause kidney damage in the long run. It needs to be taken only as and when the pain becomes difficult to tolerate. Further, reducing weight, eating plenty of calcium, avoiding squatting, and hot fomentation will also help. She can also use a diclofenac spray for local application.
Further, given her age, I would suggest the risk benefit ratio of the knee replacement surgery with your physician. Please take a second opinion on the matter as well.
Hope this helps.
