Hi,
Medroxyprogesterone available in pharmacy under the brand name of Provera, a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone, can cause various side effects. Common side effects may include changes in menstrual bleeding patterns, such as irregular or heavy bleeding, or complete cessation of
menstruation. Other common side effects may include breast tenderness, weight changes, bloating, headache, dizziness, mood changes, and nausea.
Less common but more serious side effects may include allergic reactions, severe
abdominal pain,
chest pain,
shortness of breath, severe headaches, vision changes, or swelling in the extremities. Provera will not do this to you every time however if you are allergic to this medicine then consult your gynecologist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Umer Farooq, General & Family Physician
