What Are The Side Effects Of Removing Gall Bladder In An Elderly Person?
i am a male 71 years oid i am debating about gall bladder surgery. i do not have stone just an over active gall blader. i have discomfort on the right side and back a feeling of fullness on the right side and constipation. what are the risks for my age i am in fairly good health getting a stress test before this procedure as i have a stent placed in 2009. i am worried about complications and after effects of the gallbladder removal. thank you
Hello and welcome to HCM, Experiencing fullness on upper right side of abdomen indicates some kind of inflammation of the gall bladder. Gall bladder inflammation may occur without presence of stone. Symptomatic gall bladder needs to be removed. However, surgery is performed only after checking fitness for surgery. Surgery is only performed when the person is found fit for surgery. Thus, consult your surgeon for best possible management of the gall bladder symptoms. The gall bladder should be examined histopathologically to look for any evidence of malignancy.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
