What Are The Side Effects Of Removing Iieocecal Valve Along With Appendix?
My daughter went into surgery for an appendectomy due to chronic appendicitis. During her surgery, they found her appendix was fused to her colon and recommended removal of her appendix, Ileocecal valve, a small portion of the cecum and ilium. What are the long term effects of the removal of this valve? I have read many forums in which people have had a lot of issues after this type of surgery. Are there other ways to separate the appendix from the colon?
As per my clinical experience, the ileocecal valve functions vital to control the transition of digested food stuffs from small bowel to large bowel. There can be various possible issues with partial removal of cecum and terminal ileum as: - Short bowel syndrome - Recurrent diarrhea - Indigestion bloating - Weight changes - Recurrent colic - Frequent urge to defecate - Deficiencies of certain vitamins, minerals
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
