Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am treating pressure wounds on my wife s buttox. I have been using 5% Lidocaine gel for some time. I use it twice a day after cleaning the wound. After the gel has solidified a bit I coat it with Desitin ointment as a barrier cream and put on a loose non adherent telfa pad. Is there a danger in using the lidocaine too long? It has been a few months and there has been great improvement but no cure yet. Thanks
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Lidocaine gel is an anesthetic preparation. It is used for relieving pain and itching by means of topical application. It does not cause any known major side effects and certain minor side effects would subside on its own without requiring medical attention. Kindly use the medications as prescribed. Pressure wounds generally takes much longer time to heal than usual and hence you need to have patience. Along with medications, good hydration and nutrition also contributes for faster wound healing. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
