What Are The Survival Odds After A Whipple Operation?

I had the whipple operation on 4/27/11 for adenocarcinoma of the head of the pancreas with clean margins and 29 negative nodes at SLoan in NYC. Currently finishing 6 months of adjuvant therapy. What are the stats for survival after the whipple? All articles online are very old and don t offer much hope.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
welcome to Health care magic.
1.Depending the the individual immunity and other underlying medical conditions the survival depends upon.
2.I my experience there are many patients keeping well after 10 years of post operative status.
3.More over with a well defined margins, therapy would definitely help in better way.
4.Only thing, get a good followup, Get attest 6 monthly ultrasound and x-ray chest to check for any metastasis.
5.If possible a CT with contrast if there is any suspicion in ultrasound, ( however ultrasound x-ray can miss few things due to technical issues - so get it done to be safe side)
Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.
