My boyfriends ex girlfriend is pregnant with his kid. A few days ago she went to the doctors and was iiuinformed that she was infected with genital warts. She was tested negative for hpv at her ten week appointment and is now seven months along. Neither my boyfriend nor I have had any signs or symptoms of the std, should we both still be checked?
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Hpv is the cause of genital warts. Hpv infection may be clinically silent at a particular point of time i.e even though the patient carries Hpv infection there may not be any obvious genital warts. Now, since the lady in question tested negative at ten weeks but later tested positive for Hpv therefore it is likely a recent infection in her and probably she got it from your boyfriend, provided she does not have any other sexual partners. I suggest you to get tested for Hpv as a precautionary measure. In females, Pap smear can detect Hpv viral DNA and therefore you may take up a Pap smear test. Though there are no tests approved for detecting clinically silent Hpv infection in males with no obvious warts,
Regards
