What Are The Symptoms And Treatment For Bladder Infection?
I'm a 55 year old male. recently after urination I feel as if I have to still have to go. It almost feels like I get contractions every 10 - 15 seconds. If I take a light muscle relaxer. the feeling goes away for approx. 10 hrs. Do I have a bladder infection?
a bladder infection is likely. You can confirm it with a urinalysis and perhaps also urine culture. If the infection is confirmed, you should have to do radiological tests for the urinary tract (starting from an ultrasound scan) to exclude various conditions like obstruction by renal stones, tumors, etc
Antibiotic treatment is usually started even before the test results are available. The choice of antibiotic should be based on the patient's history and recent antibiotic exposure. Taking some phenazopyridine for a couple of days might help with the discomfort.
