What Are The Symptoms And Treatment For Gilbert's Syndrome?

Can having Gilberts Syndrome with an elevated bilirubin count -- consistently between 2.5 and 3.0 -- interfere with first phase metabolism and increase blood alcohol levels? Can a nissen fundoplication from four years ago, similar to a gastric by-pass, interfere and increase these levels? I was recently stopped and tested over 1.0 BAC and had three beers over two hours and am dumbfounded as to how this was so high. Thank you.

Hi -

Gilberts syndrome is a laboratory finding and causes absolutely no symptoms at all. A nissan fundoplication is a wrap of the stomach that basically is the surgical treatment for acid reflux.

Sorry, but none of these operations or conditions interfere with metabolism. The more likely reason is that his testing device is off. I'd ask to see the officer's calibration records. Its likely that his device was not calibrated correctly.

An alcohol level over 1.0 BAC would be one of the highest blood alcohol concentrations ever recorded. A 0.08 is over the legal limit, and a 0.50 is often fatal in most people. Are you sure your level wasn't 0.10? That would make more sense and that would correlate with about 3 beers.

I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me with any further questions.
