Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, I m very worried that my boyfriend might be abusing cocaine. He told me he s used it in the past .. unfortunately he does not live in my area so I can t be there to monitor or even be there for him. He s gotten very quite the past 2 weeks and I am so worried. He experiences the shakes when he get s hungry and sometimes it will be only a few hours since his last meal. He has quite serious anxiety, issues falling asleep (sometimes) but will more experience interrupted sleeps (waking up randomly). Lately he s been super tired. He will also tell me that he is generating more saliva than normal. I don t know if that has anything to do with it or if all these things are related to something else, but I would really like some expert feedback with this. Thank you so much!
Cocaine abuse has short & long term symptoms & effects. It is one of the most harmful drugs. Yes, excessive saliva production may be a sign of drug abuse.
It occurs due to Buccal, GIT or Neurological damage caused by drug abuse.
It looks like your BF has been into drugs for quite some time. Shaking & other symptoms (convulsions, seizures, sexual problems, mood swings, disturbed sleep, etc) that he is experiencing are serious long term side effects.
You are suggested to get your bf clinically examined by a GP. He will be given symptomatic treatment to help him feel better, few tests will be done.
He needs to be treated in a detox center or a rehabilitation center. He needs counselling & therapy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
