Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What are the symptoms for a perforated colon? I have a history of diverticulitis and have had two episodes in two months, but this one feels different from the others. I have a lot of left flank pain, back pain and a headache. I don t appear to be running a fever.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have left flank pain, back pain and a headache . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like arthritis , infection in the spine , kidney infection , kidney stones and crohn’s disease . In case of perforated colon the symptoms appear like severe stomach pain , chills , fever , nausea and vomiting .So it seems to me that the symptoms are not due to perforation . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order ultrasound and CT scan to find out exact cause . Doctor may also refer you to nephrologist for kidney related problem . For now take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and apply warm compresses to back and flank area .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
