Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Appx I year ago I lift my leg to step over a baby gate and I got a terrible pain in my hip. The pain eased up but I was unable to walk for a few days and then walked only with a cane for a few months and that was with a lot of pain. I can now walk without a cane but never have a pain free day and I limp most of the time. I had an xray which just showed arthritis. My leg aches, the muscle hurt to touch them and sometimes swell or get small lump like places, this is daily. Also my knee gives me a lot of trouble, pain, stinging burning pain.
Till time take analgesic and cartilage protecting medication like glucosamine sulphate. For hip arthritis joint flexion, extension and rotation exercises will help. Physiotherapist will help you better to learn more exercises in proper protocol. If required intra-articular injection can be given.
Pain on movement can be associated with arthritis. Lack of movement will aggravate pain so you need to do range of motion exercises for hip and knee. Pain on hip movement will reduce after joint replacement.
At old age osteoporosis can be associated so you may need to take calcium supplement. Diet rich in calcium and protein will help.

I have studied your case. As per your history there can be hip arthritis which can be degenerative or due to avascular necrosis of femoral head [AVN]. I will advise you do MRI hip and you can consult me with reports or with your doctor.
