Hi. I knew a guy from our church (13-15 years old) that was believed by some of the members to have autism. He doesn t speak but he would greet everyone in church by poking them and smiling at them. He would even kiss and shake the hands when he greets them. I have noticed that he usually writes something on a paper repeatedly. I am curious if he really has autism since he s communicating, though he doesn t speak.
It is quite possible that he does have autism or another developmental disorder because though he does communicate in some ways, his manner of communication is not entirely normal.
Speaking is an essential part of communication.
It would be best for his parents or guardians to take him to a doctor for assessment. This would require a psychologist assessment, they perform these types of evaluations.
