Hello,
The cancer of colon may present with variety of symptoms depending upon the site involved (ascending or descending colon) stage at presentation and others. However, grossly here are the salient guidelines:
- Chronic occult (microscopic) blood loss in stool
- Generalised malaise,
low grade fever feeling
- Unexpected weight loss
- Abdomen distension
- Alteration in consistency of stool as severe
constipation, alternate constipation or diarrhea, ribbon type stool
- Usually vomiting presents if there is lumen obstruction of
ascending colon or intestine obstruction secondary to mesentery issues
Your symptoms are more suggestive of
motility disorder of gut as there is bad diabetes which is quite commonly responsible for pausing constipation and indigestion symptoms. However, rather than being in dilemma, I would prefer you to discuss the need of a consultant surgeon examination per rectum and
colonoscopy if not due in near future.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
