Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have been diagnosed with crohn's disease and am being medicated, but recently have had a white powdery discharge mixed with small amounts of blood and mucus when I go to the bathroom. What is this? Is it related to the Crohn's disease and should I make an appointment with my GI about it?
Hello and welcome to HCM , Crohn's disease causes inflammation and ulcerations of your bowel - and affects your bowel function. Diarrhea is a very common presentation/symptom of Crohn's disease. Stool may have abnormal consistency and appearance. It is likely that the stool you are describing is related to your Crohn's disease, as is the presence of some blood and mucus in it. These are expected changes in the stool and you do not have to see your doctor right away about this, but you should keep a log so you can inform your doctor about your stool appearance at your next scheduled visit.
The symptoms of Croh's which you would need to call your doctor about right away are: severe abdominal pain, fever, significant bleeding from your rectum, severe abdominal distention, or if you stop passing stool/gas.
Wishing you best of health.
