Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 71, in the last year he has lost interest in most everything. He walks so slowly that he almost shuffles his feet. He is a bad diabetic but everything I do or say to him about his eating habits he totally ignores. So this leads me to his biggest symptom, overeating! He eats constantly, he can eat a big meal and within the hour he is eating again. This goes on day and night. He gets up in the middle of the night an eats. Should I be concerned about dementia?
Hello, I read carefully your story of your husband. I normally would like more information, as for exp : on how long this differences in behavior appeared, what are the medication that he normally takes for diabetes and if he takes other medications for other diagnoses. I would like this information because may be this kind of problem is coming of any side effect of medications. About your question, some symptoms of dementia are: loss of memory, decreased of ability to focus and pay attention, decreased of communications skills, it affect the judgement and reasoning. In fact dementia is a general term and it has wide range of symptoms. In my opinion, if I can share with you, you have to look more in his behavior, cause I think it looks more like some symptoms of depression than dementia. I hope my answer was helpful! Best regards, Eniola
