What Are The Symptoms Of Dementia?

My father will be turning 76 in a couple of months, has lost most of his hearing, but just recently he say he is hearing people argue and it is very loud. And this is with out his hearing aids in. At times he thinks thier is someone else in the house, which I have checked and no one. His older sisters (3) all developed a form of dimentia in thier older years. Is this a sign of it?
