Hi, I am 19 year old female. two months back i did a fasting glucose test and my results came out to be 4.8mmol/L which the doctors said was within the normal range and therefore i dont have diabetes. a few weeks back i started noticing that i get really thirsty and my mouth dries up fast even after i have just drank some water. is it possible that i am diabetic? a majority of people on my mothers side of the family excluding her had been diagnosed with diabetes. what are my chances of ever getting diabetes?

Hello, Welcome to HCM I understand your concerns. Its a true fact that diabetes runs in families. But as you age is still 19 years,it is unlikely that you have diabetes at this very young age.
As you are having family history of diabetes on your mother side, there are chances of more than 50 % of you becoming diabetic in your future life.
So,i would suggest you 1.to check your blood sugar levels at regular intervals.
2.Do regular exercises like brisk walk for about half an hour a day.
3.Keep a check on your diet.Avoid sugary items and junk foods.
By following these measures, you can postpone the age of occurence of diabetes.
Hope i have answered your query.
Thank you
