What Are The Symptoms Of High Potassium And Low Sodium In Blood?
An 82 year old patient with a pace make maker is going to have surgery on Monday. her internist found out that her sodium was too low and potassium level is too high--2 conditions that can cause a delay of her surgery. The internist sent her to the Emergency room to get an IV going with meds to correct the situation. The surgeon is able to postpone the surgery for 2 weeks Can the side effects of too much too fast of whatever med is administered to lower the potassium in order to get the patient ready fast cause kidney or heart problems later on or after surgery
It is less likely that the correction of these electrolytes may lead to cardiac or kidney problems. In fact, these electrolytes are really basic for our body and when they get altered they may lead to some threatening conditions like cardiac arrhythmia or cardiac arrest. That is why it is necessary to correct their levels as soon as possible.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
