My son had cat scratch disease in 08 they removed the lymph nodes from the throat area and biopsied them. All it showed was toxoplasmosis. Now he has three enlarged lymph nodes in the groin area. Mono test was neg. He is really tired all the time all he does is sleep. He is 18 years old could he possibly have lymphoma?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Enlarged lymph nodes have so many reasons. Lymphoma can be one of the cause but other causes such as infection are more common, especially if lymph nodes are not for long time, so yes possibility of lymphoma is there but other common things like infection around the lymph node should be in mind. So take him to your local doctor, he will examine the lymph nodes and then few blood tests which would further clear the picture whether possible infection or if any suspicion of lymphoma. If there is suspicion we generally advise biopsy of the lymph node if the question is not settled by examination and blood tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
