What Are The Symptoms Of Malignant Hypertension?
Why would the doctor list me as Malignant hypertension. I have PSVT and take atenolol and I know that this has caused some elevation in the upper reading at times... but I usually have good readings most of the time... I have heard it called begine BP at times, but never Malignant before.. this has ust been added to my chart.

The doctors use the term "malignant hypertension" in cases where the blood pressure is raised very much (over 180/120 mmHg) without an apparent cause. Men with elevated blood pressure are more at risk of such condition. Such high level of blood pressure puts the patient at increased risk of a number of serious and life-threatening conditions, including heart attack, aortic dissection, stroke, acute renal failure, etc. This is why malignant hypertension is regarded as a medical emergency.
Since you have PSVT then it is extremely important to know that you have or may develop malignant hypertension, because this will guide your follow-up, monitoring and plan of care, in order to avoid any complication as much as possible. Malignant hypertension develops intermittently as it is not continuous.
Symptoms of malignant hypertension are dependent on the level of blood pressure and how long this condition lasts and will manifest differently accordingly with the organ being damaged, including eye symptoms (blurred vision for example), chest pain, headaches, nausea, seizures, etc.
