Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a q tip in my ear and accidentally suddenly pushed it into my ear, which resulted in an immediate sharp pain that eventually stopped after maybe 30 seconds or so (I m not entirely sure). I tested my hearing and it was fine in both ears (although the right ear was affected), and there were no traces of blood. I do not feel any pain in my ear. What steps should I take, and how do I know if I punctured my ear drum?
As per your query your ear drum has been hit by q tip accidentally and immediately you experienced pain for few moments . Well it seems to me that the symptoms you mention in query ar not pointing towards ear drum rupture . There can be many symptoms for ear drum rupture pus or blood drainage , hearing loss , tinnitus , vertigo , nausea and vomiting . There is such symptoms mention in your query so it could be possible that tip hit the drum that is why pain occurred but there is no serious injury . I would suggest you to keep you ear clean and avoid blowing of nose . If condition get worse then consult ENT specialist for proper examination and to rule out ear drum rupture . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics and anti inflammatory .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
