Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What are the symptoms of schizophrenia? I am getting very worried about my 35 year old stepson. He thinks people are out to get him, that they are following him, even people he barely knows - like our neighbors who only know him to say hello. I m very worried as my husbands brother was schizophrenia, is this something that can run in families?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In my opinion, symptoms of Schizophrenia are hallucinations that can be a single voice or several voices, and that can be commenting on what one is doing.
Some Common symptoms are: -Commanding voices. -Thoughts being known to others- -Poor self-care -Problems in attention- -Planning social withdrawal
It can run in families, but it only means there is an increased risk.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Gayathri
