What Are The Symptoms Of Tendonitis Wrist?

About two months ago I went to walk-in clinic where I live for a possible broken or fractured thumb. My thumb popped hard out of joint when I was working, the P.A. that was on duty told me that an x-ray was not necessary. He told me it was just a stretched tendon. Well I m starting to have second guesses, I mean I don t think it s broke now cause I can move it, but when I first went to the doctors I feel like I needed to have an x-ray cause now my thumb joints still hurt, specially the lower joint that s closet to the wrist. I have an indentation and it s popped out more with pain. Of course I use it cause I can t really help with my line of work, but I noticed a bump at the top of the joint that is hard but it doesn t really move. So my question is should I go back to get my thumb re-examined or could it just be tendonitis or something? I m about 50% it s not broken but with the pain and now the lump...I m just concerned

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You had some injury in your thumb while working. You are now experiencing pain, a bump on the thumb that is not movable. You have discomfort with your thumb. It looks like you have ruptured ligament that is forming a lump (bump) or swelling. Tenderness, bruise or discomfort in the thumb may cause the thumb to feel loose and unstable. It may cause difficulty in doing the daily schedules or work.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by an Orthopedics, get X-ray, MRI done to detect any rupture in the tendons or ligament. You will be treated accordingly. If you have thumb tendonitis you will have difficulty in grasping anything. Thumb weakness or stiffness causing difficulty in picking up a glass/ coffee mug, Swelling or bumps in the thumb are also symptoms of tendonitis. In the meantime, you can take acetaminophen, one stat when pain. Avoid straining the thumb. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
