Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Here is my email address: YYYY@YYYY and my question is, as follows: My Dr. said he wants to have blood drawn for B12. If it is to determine that deficiency exist because of the lack thereof, what does the lack of it indicate. My mind must ve been wandering and I don t remember what he said about it. What is your advice to me? Thank you!!!
Welcome to healthcaremagic. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause amongst other things 1. Macrocytic Anemia, meaning your red blood cells are fewer than normal. 2. Neurological symptoms like dizziness, numbness, forgetfulness and even walking weirdly. 3. It can be a clue that you have malabsorption or pernicious anemia. 4. You want to rule out B12 deficiency if you suspect folate deficiency as they are obviously treated differently but the labs counts (red blood cells) look the same with either deficiency.
Good luck
