What Are The Treatments Available For Endocervical Cancer ?
Hi doctor, my 55 year old mother has diagnosed with endocervical cancer. Is it hereditary? What are the treatment options available for her? How can we prevent?
Yes, there are chances of getting endocervical carcinoma if you have family history. Having a risk factor does not mean that you will get cancer; not having risk factors doesn't mean that you will not get cancer. Most people with a certain risk factor for cancer do not usually get the disease. Doctors cannot always explain why one person gets cancer and another does not.
Endometrial cancer detected in its early stages can be cured with surgery and close follow-up. Treatment choices depend on the stage and extent of the spread of the cancer. Treatment may include one or more of the following like hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy surgery to remove the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and sometimes the pelvic lymph nodes, lymphadenectomy surgery to remove lymph nodes, radiation therapy to kill cancer cells, progestin hormone therapy to block cancer growth and chemotherapy to kill cancer cells.
The protective factors may decrease the risk of endometrial cancer are combination oral contraceptives, physical activity, pregnancy and breast-feeding and changing lifestyle or eating habits .A diet low in saturated fats and high in fruits and vegetables may lower the risk of endometrial cancer.
