What Are The Treatments For Closed Fracture In Toe?
My son stubbed his toe this weekend, he has a closed fracture of the proximal phalanx of fifth toe. i have it taped to the one next to it, and is wearing a boot. i am taking him to a an ortho tomorrow, but was wondering what to expect before I get there? He is only 7...will he get a cast on it?
Hello, Treatment of such fracture depends on how much displaced and crush the fracture is. So say if it is minimal displaced and not much crush then it can be treated with tape and there is no need to apply a plaster. You have to make sure that your child should not walk on toes. If he is not following command then it is better to have a walking case with toe support, which will help in prevention of any further injury to toe. If it is displaced and comminuted then it may required minor surgical procedure. It will further required three week immobilization.
