What Are The Treatments For Ear Pain And Cough For A 5.5 Year Old Child?

My 5 1/2 year old has been complaining that his ear hurts. He says its inside the hole in his ear. He has not had a fever or cold.. But he has been coughing the last couple days, its a dry cough. I'm not sure if it could be an ear infection. He doesn't have any drainage except the usual wax.

Pediatrician 's  Response
The ear pain you describe could be due to a bacterial infection, or pressure on the ear drum from a virus. Neither situation is cause for alarm. However, the best way to determine the diagnosis is to be examined by a doctor. In the case of a bacterial infection, your doctor may choose to prescribe an antibiotic. If it's been going on for a few days, I recommend getting examined.
