Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What are the side effects of discontinuing Caltrate ? I am experiencing pains on my legs and back .. Have taken Panadol and that has helped ! I have been taking Calrate for many years and recent test results show that I have too much Calcium . So have been advised by my Specialist to discontinue . Please help me !
I can understand your concern and would try to help you in the best way possible. Caltrate may cause raised calcium levels when taken for long period of time. Discontinuing it in such a case usually has no side effects.
The pains in your legs and back may be due to raised calcium levels due to vitamin d overdose. It usually corrects as the calcium levels normalises with discontinuation of caltrate.
I suggest you keep yourself well hydrated and follow your doctors advise.
