hello , my name is Cheryl and i was wondering what would happen if i stopped taking levothyroxine so that i can take diet pills. can you please welly explain to me the effects of IF i stopped taking them .my pasciption is a 75mcg tablet a day. My emali is YYYY@YYYY please respond ASAP.
If you stop levothyroxine and become hypothyroid, it is very unlikely , no matter what pills you use, that you would be able to lose any weight.
When the thyroid hormones are at reduced level, weight gain or difficulty losing weight occurs. Thyroid hormones are important in metabolism, if you reduce their levels, you slow down your metabolism.
In addition other symptoms of hypothyroidism would occur such as constipation, muscle weakness, cold intolerance, fatigue, hair loss, dry flaky skin, increased cholesterol.
