What Are The Withdrawal Effects Of Plavix?

I had bypass surgery 16 years ago and stents put in since then. I ve taken plavix since my bypass. Doctor recently told me he thought I should stop taking plavix and start taking a full strength aspirin . Not sure what to do , because I m concerned about having a heart attack if I stop and bleeding if I don t. He didn t appear to be sure himself saying that I could stay on it if I wanted. ( I also take two baby aspirin daily) . Your advise please .

Hi,

Both Aspirin and Clopidogrel (Plavix) prevent clotting by inhibiting platelet function. Platelet plays a major role in clotting. But both of them act in different ways to block the platelet plug formation. Aspirin has more side effects than Plavix. So, depends on your compliance for the drug, you may take full strength Aspirin.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
