Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
The crawling sensation in the
scalp and the itchiness can be caused by lice and it needs good inspection of your scalp. If
head lice is the cause of the symptoms, even if lice is not able to be seen sometimes at least should be able to see the lice eggs as they are shinny and stuck in the hair shaft and do not move. The most likely place to find them is in the lower hairline at the back of the head.
If a person with good visual acuity checks your scalp and does not notice any eggs or lice than it is sure you do not have lice.
Some other cause of the symptoms might be
allergy,
eczema, seborrhoic
dermatitis or yeast infection. It might be good to start using a
Nizoral shampoo 2-3 times a week and see if it will help with the sensation and the itchyness.
If the itchiness does not go away with nizoral shampoo for a month you will need to see a doctor to examine your scalp and decide on further treatment and follow up. So to close:
1. make sure someone with good visual acuity is examining you to check for lice/eggs
2. If no lice or eggs than start a nizoral shampoo
4. You can also try to take orall
Loratadine 10 mg one tablet at night to help with itchyness and see if it relieves it- this will be especially effective if allergy is the cause.
3. if no improvement see a doctor
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
Best regards,
