What Can Be Done For Leg Pain, Swelling, Redness Due To Infection?

My boyfriend went to the hospital because his foot starting swelling up and he had pain and redness he thought it was his gout acting up but the doctor said he had a bacterial infect he has amtibiotics to take but thry dont seem to be helping to me he looks like he has blood poisioning and now his leg is paining what does he do

Hi, first- if antibiotics are not helping, you need to culture the tissue (like pus) from the area involved, which will guide antibiotic usage. second- a red leg can be due to thrombosis of deep veins of leg for which you need doppler studies of leg. Third- if redness is limited to one joint of feet, your suspicion of gout is also correct, which can be diagnosed by serum uric acid levels (partly). I advice you to re visit your doctor before any complication ensue. Till then, keep his leg in an elevated position and give some pain killers like brufen or diclofenac. Hope this has helped.
