What Can Be Done For Painful Skin Scratch Caused By A Dog?
My dog's teeth grazed my skin while I was playing fetch with her. There is no puncture or scratch, just a small red spot. It does not hurt unless I aplly pressure to it but what gets me worried is that even if I touch it just a little bit, it'll start to hurt.
I can understand your concern for painful skin scratch caused by a dog.
The most important thing is whether your dog is immunized or not. If your dog is immunized then there is no need to worry. If not then should go for immediate rabies vaccination done. If you have not gone for tetanus vaccination then the same is also necessary.
For the wound: Wash the affected area with soap and water and keep the wound open. You can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and take pain killer tablets such diclofenac or paracetamol.
Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem and spread of the infection.
If it is increasing despite the treatment then meet a family physician and get a proper treatment without delay for the oral antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or amoxycillin 500 mg two times a day for 5 days to prevent secondary infection.
Take care.
