What Can Be Done To Clear Lungs And Avoid Suffocating Feeling?

I have trouble clearing my lungs & seem to discharge phlem in small amounts. The phlem is kind of hard or jello in consistance. I am coughing almost all day to clear my breathing but cant succeed . I dont smoke & have'nt had that habit , But I was exposed to alot of dust and silica particulate with little or no protection when I was young. What can I take to clear my lungs and stop having this suffocating feeling all the time ?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
You are having chronic cough with thick, difficult today expectorate phlegm with chest tightness and heaviness.
You are also having exposure today sillica and dust. So we should first rule out chronic bronchitis and sillicosis in your case.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray for the diagnosis of sillicosis.
3. PFT (pulmonary function test) for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
You may need inhaled bronchodilator (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroids(ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
For thick secretions, mucolytic drugs like ambroxol, bromhexine, N Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) etc should be tried.
Don't worry, you will be alright, but first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
