What Can Be Done To Prevent The Dryness During Intercourse After Using Mirena?

Hello my name is Rhonda. I currently have the Mirena as my form of birth control. Since having it (1 year), I have experienced dryness during intercourse, extreme itching, vaginal fissures and the discharge just began to appear. Please help. I have googled it and a lot of women are having this issue wit the Mirena. What are some things I can to prevent it or make my vagina more comfortable. Thanks in advance!

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Yes, vaginal dryness is one of the common side effects of using mirena. I would recommend various forms of lubrication that are safe, especially a medical one available in all pharmacies called KY Jelly.

If not lubrication you could also try certain hormonal creams that you are required to apply per-vaginally, that will help your vagina to effectively start lubricating.

Also, try to indulge more in foreplay, discuss this with your partner.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
