What Can Be Done To Stop Eye Drainage After Augmentin Course?
My 1 year old has had 2 ear infections in the past few weeks. The first was a double ear infection treated with Cefprozil. He completed the dose, the next day started running a fever, went to the doc the next day both ears infected and had eye drainage. Treated with Augmentin, completed the dose. We are now 4 days from finishing that and his eyes are draining again, no fever, eating and sleeping fine. What is the next step?
Hi. This eye drainage is called epiphora, and is the result of the duct draining the tears from the eyes to the nose getting blocked. This is usually due to nasal infection which was part of the URTI. Your baby will need another course of an antibiotic, nasal decongestant drops, eye-drops and this may resolve within 3-5 days. If not you need to consult an Ophthalmologist for syringing of the duct and the problem will be solved.
