Hello,
Amitriptyline is a
tricyclic antidepressant that is used in various psychiatric disorders. The toxic dose of Amitriptyline is 10-20mg/kg body weight. You mentioned that you had taken 4 tablets each 25 mg strength meaning you had taken 100 mg at a time. It is not a significant dose to cause toxicity. So please relax and drink more and more water.
Few symptoms of its toxicity are seizures,
hypotension or decreased BP, tachycardia or
increased heart rate, respiratory depression leading to inability to protect airway and aspirations, fever, dilated pupils, dry mouth, dry, warm skin, decreased bowel sounds, and altered mental status, or
dehydration that can occur.
If any of the above symptoms appear, you need to consult a physician. Usually clinically apparent within 2 hours, but delayed toxicity may occur. If the toxicity sets in it persists for 24-48 hours. If 6 hours post-ingestion, there are no signs of toxicity seen both clinically and on the electrocardiogram, and the patient has normal bowel sounds, then most likely, the patient has not taken a significant overdose.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
