Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 2 year old son has a bump/boil on his tailbone slightly towards the left of the crack. Barely noticeable until we touch it. It was a reddish rash before and now the redness has gone but the bump can be felt. He does not seem to have any pain or irritation. Doctor put him on antibiotics for 10 days and may refer us to a surgeon if this does not go. I am very worried about the possibility of it being a tumor.
Hello. I just read through your question. What you are describing is consistent with an abscess. The location is very common for this type of thing. An abscess is a bacterial infection of the skin. It often produces pus. Antibiotics almost always work. However, when they don't, removing the abscess is necessary. This is commonly done by a surgeon. Whether it heals by antibiotic or heals by removal, it is not a tumor, and is nothing to worry about.
