What Can Cause Chronic Pain In Shoulders Despite Any Injury?

I have pain in my shoulder, upper bicep area that will not go away. It is often very sharp pain. I have not been injured that I know of. I thought that maybe I slept on it wrong or something, but it s been about a month and won t go away. I ve used a tens unit, and that seems to help, but only temporary. What could this be? What type of specialists would be best to go to for help? I m 43, male, 5 11 , 230lbs and fairly active. Prior to a separate injury in my leg last year, I ran 5-6 times a week for 4-5 miles. Since that injury I have gained about 20lbs.

This pain is likely due to inflammation of the muscle (myositis) or the tendons (tenosynovitis).

Other less likely cause is neurologic pain.

It's better to see an orthopedics or rheumatology doctor to perform a physical examination. He can then direct you further.

An ultrasound examination of the shoulder is a fast and useful diagnostic method to asses the muscles and tendons of the joint.

Hope that was a helpful advice.
Regards.
