What Can Cause False Positive Drug Test Report For Cocaine?
a family member submitted to a hair follicle test and showed 507 pg/mg for benzoylecgonine. This is a very low concentration. From what we have read most test results are in ng, which is much higher than pg. Hair tests show for a long period of time. The member insists they have not knowingly used cocaine. What may cause this reading, or what may cause a false positive?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Varinder's Response
Hi,
If the member denies it taking, it may be possible that he had taken some product which was adulterated with cocaine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
