What Can Cause High Fever And Skin Rashes Post Atrial Septal Defect Surgery?

Hi, I am Lakshma Reddy from Hyderabad, India. Recently my younger sister (aged 29) has undergone ASD operation and after being discharged from hospital, for 2 weeks she is having high fever and from last week Skin rashes have appeared and understand it itches aswell. Could you please suggest the reasons for this..

Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. The symptoms are suggestive of an infection, whether primary from the skin or an internal septic focus; given recent surgery and hospitalization this may be higher risk and has to be investigated as soon as possible, including blood cultures and ultrasound of the heart to rule out infection of the heart itself, also known as endocarditis.
