What Can Cause Intermittent Severe Cramp Under The Left Lower Rib Cage?

Have cramp under left lower rib cage. It comes and goes but when it happens hard to stand the pain. To help with the pain I tighten up my rib cage pressurizing it then then becomes bearable. Have no fever. Real good blood pressure and I am a male 66 years old. And when pain is gone I feel a sight burning sensation in the same area

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi thanks for asking question.

First there could be gastritis or colitis like infection in GI tract.antibiotic and omeprazole useful for it.USG will be also be useful.

Second it could be ulcer or flu to stomach or indigestion. For that omeprazole given for few days.

The endoscopy useful if condition worsening. From suspicious area biopsy can be taken and send for histopathology examination for correct diagnosis.

Diverticulitis also can lead pain.
USG will be useful.

Finally if vomiting also present then rule out obstructive cause by endoscopy.like bands or adhesion.

Finally if no cause present then muscular pain thought and simple analgesic need for it.

Wish you good health.

Happy to help you further.
