Hello and welcome to HCM, A lump on side of the neck could be due to many causes since many structures are present in the neck. Lymph node enlargement is the commonest cause of lump on side of the neck. A lymph node can be present in the neck but it will swell or enlarge in case of acute infection. Salivary gland can also cause enlargement in the side of neck. Other soft tissue swellings can also cause swelling. A clinical examination of the swelling is required. relevant investigation like fine needle aspiration of the lesion is required. In this investigation, cells are aspirated from the swelling with a needle, cells are stained and examined under microscope. Examination is helpful to determine the character and nature of the swelling. Further management will depend on the result of the investigation. Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
