What Can Cause Severe Pain In The Knee After A Meniscus Repair Surgery?

A few years ago I had a meniscus repair in my left knee because I had torn my meniscus due to a discoid meniscus. Every now and again I get severe pain in my knee either randomly or associated with overuse and it can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days. It becomes very hard to move my leg from one position to another let alone walk. It reminds of the pain I experienced right after surgery once the anesthesia wore off and its not like what I felt before the surgery when I had the torn meniscus. Its been progressively getting more painful, more frequent, and lasting longer so I just want to know why my knee is still bothering me years down the line.

Hi,

Meniscal repairs do not have very good results in general. If the problem persists then discuss with your surgeon about partial excision (esp of torn fragment).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
