What Can Cause Shortness Of Breath While Sleeping?

About a week ago I woke up in the morning and I noticed I was breathing fast short breaths. I thought nothing of it at the time however, it happened again Sunday morning. I got up washed by face it was gone. I was as if my body was not getting oxygen I guess that is why I woke up. I am concerned.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi,

By your history and description, the possibility of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is more likely. In this, the patient feels difficulty in breathing especially at night in the supine position.

So better to consult pulmonologist and get done a detailed sleep study. If a sleep study is showing High Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) then the possibility of OSA is high. Treatment is a CPAP machine under the guidance of Sleep Specialist.

Weight reduction is also beneficial if you are obese. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
